Water and Hydration

Water is without doubt the best fluid source you can drink.
Do you know that mild dehydration affects your ability to exercise, increases blood pressure and heart rate, and also kidney health can be affected.

Not only is exercise performance affected, but brain performance and your ability to concentrate.

If you frequently suffer mild to moderate headaches, it might be as simple as you not drinking enough.
Dehydration is quite common specially in summer time.

The ‘8 glasses a day’ rule is a good one, but it’s worth realising that this is a very rough estimate.

This is really depends on how much you sweat, if is a hot day or you are in air conditioning, how big you are, gender, activity level, temperature and the environment you live in. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, you probably need more than 8 glasses a day.

A few tips for keeping yourself hydrated:

1 – Carry a water bottle with you;

2 – Don’t wait until you feel thirsty to drink water

3 – Fill your water bottle a minimum of twice a day

4 – If you like some flavoured drinks, a better option will be adding some lemon, fruit or herbs of your choice into your bottle of water

Remember that water is the best drink and should be your drink of choice the majority of the time.
